The New York Knicks battle the Detroit Pistons Friday at the 2024 NBA Las Vegas Summer League. Tip from Cox Pavilion is set for 7 p.m. ET (ESPN). Let’s analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Knicks vs. Pistonsodds and make our expert NBA picks and predictions.
The Knicks have played 3 Las Vegas Summer League games so far and are 1-2. They are coming off one of the most thrilling games of the event, a 106-105 victory Wednesday over the Sacramento Kings in which 2nd-round pick G Tyler Kolek dropped 21 points and 8 assists. New York has a 4-point loss to the Charlotte Hornets and 7-point loss to the Brooklyn Nets on its resume as well.
The Pistons are 2-1 through their 1st 3 games. They started off the event with a 13-point loss to the Philadelphia 76ers and have bounced back with a 14-point win over the Houston Rockets and an 8-point win over the Chicago Bulls. No. 5 overall pick Ron Holland II is the most notable name on the team and scored 17 points against Chicago on 7-of-20 shooting on Tuesday.
The Pistons are just too expensive to take on the money, but they have the better top-to-bottom roster and should be able to cover the spread. Look there for value.
BET PISTONS -2.5 (-112).
The Knicks defense has been one of the worst in the summer league, allowing 90 or more points in all 3 games. The Pistons, who have scored 80 or more in all 3, should be able to dominate offensively. Detroit has also been great at generating free throws, shooting the 7th-most per game (25.3) in the event.
While New York has been strong from 3-point range, it only shoots the 7th-fewest per game. Couple the different styles in play, and take the team that has scored more consistently and has defended more competently. Take PISTONS -2.5 (-112).
BET OVER 179.5 (-110).
The Knicks defense has been atrocious, but their offense has been one of the most efficient. They are averaging 93.7 points per game and shooting 48.8% from the field, having allowed 94, 92 and 105 on the defensive end.
The Pistons should be able to find their rhythm against a loose defense. The Knicks style of play lead to high-scoring games. With that in mind, back OVER 179.5 (-110).
