DETROIT (WWJ) — Two suspects are in custody, thanks to the help of a Michigan State Police helicopter, after allegedly stealing a car and fleeing police.

It all unfolded around 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 18, according to MSP.

Trooper 2, an MSP Aviation Unit that helps patrol Metro Detroit, spotted a stolen Hyundai driving on Joy Road. The driver sped away when Detroit police officers tried to pull the car over.

Video posted to the MSP Second District X page shows the driver fleeing police, driving recklessly and weaving in and out of traffic on city streets and highways in Detroit and Southfield.

More than 10 minutes after the pursuit began, the driver pulled over on the side of a neighborhood road and two suspects, both believed to be young Black males, ran away.

The suspects ran through backyards before eventually being arrested.

MSP officials said the stolen Hyundai was recovered. Authorities did not say where the car was originally stolen from.

Authorities have not released any information about the suspects in custody or what charges they may face.
