Vote for Detroit's best coffee shop

    Bracket: Axios Visuals

This week, we're hosting an NCAA Tournament-style bracket to crown Detroit's best coffee shop.

The big picture: These shops can be integral to the culture of the city, serving as beloved spots that fuel us, introduce us to new people and ideas, or comfort us when we need a break.

    • The scene is always changing, with 11 shops closing so far this year and 18 opening, Detroitography founder Alex Hill wrote as of May.
    • There were around 100 total shops, per Hill, including bakeries and large chains.

How it works: For this bracket, we came up with a list of 16 shops, including some input from readers.

    • Round 1 launches Monday, with voting open until 4pm. Follow the link at the bottom of this story to our website, where you can vote at the bottom of the page.
    • Round 2 starts Tuesday, and so on, until a winner is chosen.

Between the lines: For our list, we steered away from big chains like Starbucks and stuck to shops inside the city.

    • We know there are beloved spots in the burbs, but it just felt like too wide a net to cast.
    • We didn't list multilocation spots separately. Sorry, Red Hook , which has three locations within 4 miles of each other.

Of note: How you decide "best" is up to you — whether that's based on the quality of the coffee, the overall vibe, the quality of the snack options, the comfort as a working spot or another measure.
