MotorCity Casino in Detroit, Michigan, will soon be closing its poker room on Monday, Aug. 5 at 6 a.m. According to PlayMichigan.com, the property ended the Poker VIP program on July 1.

MotorCity Casino poker players who played 300 hours between April and June were upgraded to Poker VIP

A notice on the casino’s website reads, “Players who played 300 poker hours April 1, 2024–June 30, 2024, will be upgraded to Poker VIP July-September and will receive monthly offers and $200 in comps.”

The casino hasn’t announced the reason for the closure. A MotorCity Casino representative said they had “no comment at this time,” when asked about the decision.

MotorCity is owned by Ilitch Holdings, which also owns the Little Caesars pizza franchise, the Detroit Red Wings, the Detroit Tigers, and other Detroit-area businesses.

According to Poker Atlas, MotorCity was the most preferred poker option in the city with 37 tables. However, Michigan also offers legal online poker via BetMGM, WSOP.com, and PokerStars.

Two other retail poker room options available in Detroit are MGM Grand and Hollywood Casino at Greektown

Detroit-area gamblers will still have two other poker options in the city. MGM Grand offers players a 14-table room and Hollywood Casino at Greektown has another 10 tables.

Combined slot and table game revenue for the three casinos through the first six months of 2024 was $644.7 million.

In May, WSOP unveiled a shared liquidity platform featuring players in Nevada, New Jersey, and Michigan. PokerStars launched their shared platform between players in Michigan and New Jersey in 2023.

Moreover, MotorCity Casino is partnered with FanDuel Sportsbook. According to the casino’s website, available online poker games include Casino Hold ‘Em Poker and Five Play Draw Poker.

New patrons will receive a promotional bonus worth up to $1000. Gamblers will also receive full access to free spins, bet bonuses, and more at FanDuel Casino.

Through June this year, MotorCity Casino is second overall in gambling revenue among Detroit operators. MGM Grand leads the six-month report with $304 million. MotorCity generated $195 million, and Hollywood Casino at Greektown is third with $148.7 million.
