Novi’s Delphinus Announces Installation of Its SoftVue Breast Ultrasound Tomography System

Delphinus Medical Technologies, a Novi-based pioneering medical imaging company that developed the SoftVue Breast Ultrasound Tomography (UST), today announced the latest installation of its breakthrough breast imaging technology at McLeod Regional Medical Center, Florence, S.C.

SoftVue UST is the only imaging modality designed specifically to find more cancer in women with dense breasts, and also is the only ultrasound-based breast imaging system that is FDA-approved for same-day screening as mammography. Delphinus designed the system as an adjunct to mammography for women with dense breasts to address the fact that breast cancer screening with mammography alone reduces mortality by 41 percent in women with non-dense breasts but reduces mortality by only 13 percent in women with dense breasts.

When combined with mammography, SoftVue increases sensitivity by 20 percent and specificity by eight percent, offering comprehensive characterization at the point of screening which helps increase cancer detection and reduce short-term follow-ups.

Michigan Strategic Fund Approves Dow Project to Modernize Manufacturing, R&D Operations

The Michigan Strategic Fund approved support for Dow to modernize its Michigan Operations Industrial Park in Midland and the Auburn Operations facilities in Williams Charter Township, strengthening the company’s research and development and manufacturing capabilities in Michigan.

MSF support for the project includes approval of:

    • A $120 million Critical Industry Program grant
    • A 15-year 100 percent SESA Exemption with an estimated value of up to $454,450 for a minimum of $25 million of investment in Eligible Personal Property
    • A 10-year extension of the MSF Designated Renaissance Zone and addition of specific parcels within the established MSF Designated Renaissance Zone
    • A mutually agreed-to early termination of Dow’s MEGA tax credit

The investment expects to improve and expand manufacturing processes, including supporting production of silicone foams, gels, coatings, encapsulants, and other materials for use in electric vehicle batteries and other technologies. Modernization of infrastructure within Dow’s Michigan Operations Industrial Park — which serves Dow as well as multiple tenant companies — includes potential investments in aging water and sewer systems.

In addition to maintaining 5,000 jobs in Michigan and potentially serving as an anchor for future development in the area, Dow will continue to serve as an active and visible supporter in the Great Lakes Bay Region the way it has for more than 125 years. Further, the investment ensures the company’s skilled workforce have continued opportunities to grow their skills and experiences and helps to provide a multitude of benefits to the general quality of life in the region.

Consumers Energy Clearing Over 7K+ Miles of Trees Near Power Lines This Year

Consumers Energy in Jackson will clear and remove trees along more than 7,000 miles of power lines this year, part of a stepped-up commitment to protect electrical equipment from Mother Nature and reduce outages through the company’s Reliability Roadmap.

“Line clearing is some of the most visible work that Consumers Energy does every day, but it’s sometimes underappreciated as a cornerstone of our commitment to keeping the lights on for customers,” says Chris Laird, vice president of electric operations at Consumers Energy. “We’re doing more work today – and we’re being more strategic about that work – than in the past, all to better serve our customers who count on us.”

Three years ago, Consumers Energy started a more aggressive effort to trim trees. Today, the company identifies electrical circuits where trees and vegetation most often lead to power outages and prioritizes them. That’s part of an effort to clear trees and limbs across high- and low-voltage power lines over seven years.

This year, Consumers Energy plans to do forestry work on over 7,000 miles of lines, with projections to do more than 7,000 miles a year going forward.

Line clearing is one of several tactics Consumers Energy employs as it carries out the Reliability Roadmap it laid out for customers last year. The company’s long-term blueprint aims to combat more severe weather with upgrades in equipment, strategy and technology – all with the goal of reducing the number of power outages and restoring power to all customers in 24 hours or less, no matter the situation.
