There may not be a better pro wrestling analog for the general vibe Dan Campbell puts out into the football universe than Hulk Hogan. Whether it's their muscular frames, macho bravado, or underrated shrewdness, Campbell and Hogan are two peas in a public figure pod. The Detroit Lions head coach had Hogan out to visit the team during training camp on Monday, and whether this was planned or will ultimately be posted in a more formal social video, the "CAMPBELLMANIA" promo Hogan delivered was electrifying: https://twitter.com/BradGalli/status/1816482545745162417
Campbell is already in midseason form at the press conference podium. If his prolific caffeine intake and considerable coaching acumen prove insufficient to get his Lions fired up for the 2024 season, this Hogan cutup will indubitably do the job. It's cool that Hulk endorses Campbell as a tag team partner. He expounded upon this point later on and said he'd have Campbell "do all the work." https://twitter.com/BradGalli/status/1816479316097556965 Not a bad strategy. Campbell played tight end in the NFL for over a decade before turning to coaching. Both these fine, strapping American gents and their myriad accomplishments beat back the notion that they're nothing but meatheads. That said, I'm still baffled by Campbell's hyper-aggressive game management that — along with
the luckiest ricochet since The Immaculate Reception — cost his team a trip to the Super Bowl. There's little elsewhere for Detroit to go but down from an NFC Championship Game appearance. That puts a ton of pressure on the Lions this year. What's cool about the NFC is, you won't get many arguments that the 49ers and Lions aren't the clear top two teams. The AFC is stacked with so many good quarterbacks, which isn't exactly the case in the other conference. At the same time, nobody is under more scrutiny than Detroit and San Francisco. The Niners have made the NFL's Final Four in four of the last five years, with zero Super Bowl wins to show for it. Meanwhile, the Lions have to back up their incredible 2023 campaign with another deep playoff run. That should prove tougher with the shockingly-good Green Bay Packers and
Bears No. 1 overall pick Caleb Williams sharing their NFC North division. What the Cheeseheads and Chicago don't have, though, is the X-factor of Hulk Hogan to put wind in their sails. The power of his handlebar mustache alone guarantees a perfect season. https://twitter.com/BrandNewDET/status/1816472991963783484
