Draymond Green on what if Warriors trade him to a non-winning organization: "I'd much rather be in Detroit than Charlotte"

This summer, the Golden State Warriors did the unthinkable by breaking up the Big 3 of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green . After Thompson became the first domino to fall, Green is seen by some as the next piece to go.

For now, the team looks like it is staying put on that front. But if things go sideways, the whispers of Green being shipped elsewhere could possibly become loud. In such a scenario, the four-time All-Star hopes the Warriors would trade him to a contender. He also said he would be fine being sent to the Detroit Pistons —as long as it is not the Charlotte Hornets.

"If they gonna send me to any non-winning organization, just send me to Detroit," Dray said on the "Club 520" podcast . "It's the crib. ... I'd much rather be in Detroit than Charlotte."

    The Hornets caught a stray?

If it seems like Dray took a shot at Charlotte , he probably did. The Eastern Conference squad has consistently been one of the conference's bottom-ranked teams. Since the 2004-05 season, when the franchise re-entered the league as the Charlotte Bobcats, it has made the playoffs just thrice, bowing out of the first round each time.

The future looks bright for the Hornets, though, as their roster features aspiring stars LaMelo Ball and Brandon Miller. But Green possibly believes the Pistons have a rosier outlook.

Is it because Detroit has Cade Cunningham, Jalen Duren, Jaden Ivey, and Ausar Thompson? He could slot right there at power forward, even if spacing would be a nightmare for such a starting lineup.

However, the four-time champ did say that "Motor City" is his crib. He was born and raised in Michigan and even went to college for four years at Michigan State University. So, if he is on the Pistons and not fighting for an NBA title anymore, at least he would be home sweet home.

The chances of Green leaving Golden State

Dray's statement begs the question of how long he would be playing for the Dubs. He is under contract until the end of the 2025-26 season and has a player option for the following year. However, the organization could hit the reset button anytime before then if wins become too scarce.

Some might argue that the former Defensive Player of the Year deserves to retire as a Warriors for everything he has done for the franchise. But people were saying the same about Thompson, yet the previously disgruntled sharpshooter opted to leave town and signed with the Dallas Mavericks. Green agrees that it was the right decision , even if it was a bitter pill to swallow.

Many eyes will surely be on the 34-year-old's remaining months or years with the only NBA team he has ever played for so far.
