The Detroit Lions are one of the best teams in the NFL entering the 2024 season. Among the favorites to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl, they have a solid roster from top to bottom.

To be a contender, you need every facet of the team clicking and on the same page. Health is also very important, as the NFL calendar can sometimes turn into a war of attrition.

Unfortunately for the Detroit Lions, they already have one massive hole that needs to be filled. As shared by Eric Woodyard of ESPN , kicker Michael Badgley is going to miss the entire 2024 campaign because of a significant injury.

NFL insider Adam Schefter of ESPN reported that the injury is a torn hamstring. The injury occurred during practice on Thursday, and Badgley will be moved to injured reserve.

Surgery is the next move for the talented kicker. “We feel awful for Badge,” Campbell said. “He worked his tail off to get ready for this season. He was having a good spring and was ready for camp. It’s tough.”

Badgley was signed by the Detroit Lions late in the 2023 season. He made four appearances in the regular season, making all four of his field goal attempts and 13-of-15 extra points.

In the postseason, he was excellent as well. He knocked both field goal attempts through the uprights and all 11 extra points.

Finding consistency at the kicker position is not always easy, but Badgley was going to provide that to the Detroit Lions. In his career, he has been automatic from 40 yards and in, making 56-of-58 attempts.

Right now, the only other kicker the Detroit Lions have on their roster is Jake Bates. Earlier this offseason, the former USFL standout was signed to a two-year deal.

Right now, the team is comfortable with what they have in Bates. Workouts have been held, but there is no urgency to bring in another kicker currently.

“If we find the right guy that helps us for competition for camp, then we’ll do that,” Campbell said .

Badgley began his career with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2018. He has also spent time with the Indianapolis Colts , Tennessee Titans and Chicago Bears .
