The Detroit Lions are continuing their quest to keep their core players on the team for the long haul, as the Lions have agreed to a contract extension with left tackle Taylor Decker.

General manager Brad Holmes was a guest on "Costa and Jansen with Heather" and revealed the news. According to his agent, Decker's deal is for three years and $60 million , with $31.83 million guaranteed. Per Over the Cap , Decker's annual average in the extension ranks seventh among left tackles.

This extension comes as zero surprise, as not only is Decker so important to this team as its left tackle and a locker room leader, he has said on multiple occasions that he and the team have had discussions for an extension.

He touched on it during the offseason program, and then spoke on it briefly upon arriving at training camp. It was clear Decker was optimistic about landing a new deal.

“I think, I’m hoping to hear fairly soon, but as far as like anything of numbers, substance, I haven’t had too much,” Decker said last week, via Benjamin Raven of MLive.com . “I will say, it’s something that I am hopeful of, I mean, I’ve even gone up and I had some conversations with Dan [Campbell] during OTAs just to talk to him about it."

A former first-round pick of the Lions in 2016, Decker has become one of the better left tackle in the NFL during his career and is a key piece of a Detroit offensive line that is the best in football.

Decker's extension is just the latest the Lions have gotten. Detroit has also extended quarterback Jared Goff, wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown and right tackle Penei Sewell this offseason.
