FENTON TWP. (WWJ) — A Detroit man is facing murder and armed robbery charges after what police say was a Facebook Marketplace sale gone wrong over the Fourth of July holiday weekend.

Omar Brogdon, 29, has been charged in connection with the death of Orhan Hasek, who was shot and killed at his home in Fenton Township, according to the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Chris Swanson said during a press briefing Monday that Brogdon and Hasek had been communicating via Facebook for about 36 hours before Brogdon went to the Fenton Twp. home on July 6.

The two had been talking about car parts Hasek was selling, including Corvette seats that were for sale.

Around 3 p.m. on July 6, a neighbor near the home heard what she believed were car parts and had seen an orange Chevy Camaro backed into the driveway “for an extended period of time,” according to Swanson.

Swanson said Omar had a “violent confrontation” with Hasek and ultimately fired four shots. It appears the two had gotten into an argument about the best type of sports car. Swanson said the killing was not random and was “very deliberate.”

On Monday Swanson said just before a previous press briefing on July 9 investigators learned that Brogdon was closely following the case through the media to see if there were any leads that pointed to him as a suspect.

So in that press briefing Swanson said he was “frustrated” and that police had no leads in order to get Brogdon to “come out of the shadows,” as they knew who the suspect was, but not where he was.

Eventually evidence led investigators to a house where Brogdon was. A surveillance team set up outside the house just after 7:30 a.m. last Tuesday and Brogdon was arrested about five minutes later when he was pulling out of the driveway, Swanson said.

Authorities recovered what they believe is the murder weapon, along with the Camaro, which had since been painted white.

Brogdon has been charged with first-degree murder, felony murder, armed robbery and three counts of felony firearm.
