Yankees trade attempt for Tigers ace reportedly not 'overwhelmingly positive'

The New York Yankees seem to be eyeing a potential trade for Detroit Tigers starter Jack Flaherty ahead of Tuesday's trade deadline.

While one report suggested the Yankees were in "extensive talks" for Flaherty, another report Monday night downplayed the likelihood of the deal happening.

Late Monday night, Jon Heyman of The New York Post reported that "things didn’t look overwhelmingly positive" in terms of a blockbuster deal sending Flaherty to The Bronx.

It's difficult to truly know where the Yankees and Tigers stand on a potential trade ahead of the 6:00 p.m. deadline Tuesday.

However, Flaherty would be a welcome addition to the starting rotation, especially considering the season he's having.

    The 28-year-old is 7-5 in 18 starts with a 2.95 ERA, 133 strikeouts, 10 walks and a 0.956 WHIP across 16.2 innings.

His 33.2% whiff rate (94th percentile), 32% strikeout rate (93rd percentile) and 4.6% walk rate (94th percentile) are all elite marks.

We'll see what happens when the deadline rolls around later Tuesday, but this is certainly a storyline worth monitoring throughout the day.
