As of today (August 1), the popular snack brand has been delivering delicious treats to the masses for 94 years — and it all started right here in Michigan.
Founded in 1930 by Sicilian immigrants Peter Cipriano and Cross Moceri as the “Cross & Peters Company” in Detroit, the brand name “Better Made” was selected in honor of their desire to make better potato chips.
After surviving the Great Depression, Better Made found its home along Gratiot Ave on Detroit's east side in the 1940s. Over the decades, the brand added new flavors and snack lines, acquired other companies, and expanded its production facility to keep up with booming business.
Fast-forward to today, and Better Made is the only original potato chip company to continue on in Detroit, with 20+ other companies folding over the years.
And to ring in 94 years of business, Better Made has released new kettle cooked potato chips in three flavors: Original, Zesty Jalapeño and Sweet Maui Onion.
“We’re always excited for our anniversary, but more so this year with the release of our new kettle cooked potato chip line,” said Dave Jones, President of Better Made Snack Foods. “We’re always looking to develop new products to enhance our snack portfolio.”
The Michigan-based company will also celebrate its birth month by offering up giveaways via Facebook and Instagram weekly throughout August.
