Detroit Lions update Sione Vaki's status after injury scare at practice

The Detroit Lions had yet another injury scare during Thursday's practice after rookie running back Sione Vaki exited the session early after suffering a shoulder injury during the one-on-one portion of practice.

Thankfully, the injury is not serious, head coach Dan Campbell revealed on Friday morning. Campbell says that the injury is nothing long term and that Vaki could return immediately, per Kyle Meinke of MLive.com .

"He's good," Campbell said of Vaki, per Pride of Detroit .

That's great news for Vaki, who has routinely been a standout at practice during the offseason, mostly thanks to his pass-catching ability. And, being a rookie, he can ill-afford to miss crucial reps in training camp.

Vaki was one of two fourth-round picks the Lions made in the 2024 NFL Draft. He's currently battling it out for the No. 3 running back job with Craig Reynolds and others, and by all accounts, he's been competitive.

On top of his running back duties, Vaki is expected to contribute on special teams in some form or fashion, whether that be as a returner, blocker or pursuer.
