The Detroit Pistons' selection of former G League Ignite star Ron Holland with the fifth overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft shocked many fans who thought Detroit would go with a more well known college player like Donovan Clingan or Rob Dillingham.

Holland's selection gives the Pistons an athletic wing player with a high ceiling on both defense and offense.

Holland spent time at the top of some NBA mock drafts this past fall before sliding into the middle of the top ten.

The 6-foot-7, 206 pound forward does not lack for confidence, as evidenced by a courtside interview.

"I definitely want to put my name in that Defensive Player Of The Year conversation," Holland said when asked his rookie year goals.

"I definitely want to win Rookie Of The Year this season, it's going to be very difficult but I think I have the tools to do it."

Holland averaged 18.5 points, 6.7 rebounds and 2.1 steals last season in the G-League.

He has the length, physicality and athleticism to complement the Pistons top defenders including Jalen Duren last season's first round pick Ausar Thompson.

Holland also revealed he that he has bigger goals in mind.

"I want to win a NBA championship," he said . "I think with the young corps that we have, eventually we can get us one."
