4 potential Giants' cuts that the Lions could be interested in

The Detroit Lions and New York Giants began their joint practice session on Monday and just like last year, Lions' head coach Dan Campbell mentioned that the Lions would have their eyes on Giants players that could potentially be cut and could help the Lions out.

"I would tell you, Brad (Holmes) and Ray (Agnew) and our scouting department, they'll be looking just like, you know, our roster is going to be looked at by Joe (Schoen) and those guys. So you're looking, I mean, you want to see what's out there. You want to see if there's a potential guy may not make it to this roster, and if so, do we like him? You know, you're, of course, you're going to do that. So that's part of the process on both sides."

With that in mind, we decided to take a look at the Giants' roster and list some players to keep an eye on for the Lions this week.

    WR Isaiah Hodgins

It's been established in the first two weeks of training camp that the Lions need receiver help . One thing they specifically need is a big bodied X receiver that can make the contested catches that Josh Reynolds used to make.

At 6-foot-4 and 210 pounds, Hodgins can be that guy for the Lions. The reason he might not make the Giants is because they're set up pretty well with Malik Nabers, Darius Slayton, Wan'Dale Robinson and Jalin Hyatt.

    Edge Ovie Oghoufo

An undrafted rookie that the Lions actually had some interest in before the draft. Oghoufo came into Detroit as part of the Lions group of local pro day players . Oghoufo is actually from Farmington Hills so this could be a homecoming of sorts.

Oghoufo wouldn't be a guy that the Lions would sign to their 53-man roster, but he is someone that they would probably be interested in taking a look at this season as a part of their practice sqaud.

    OT Matt Nelson

You might remember Nelson because he was the teams starting right tackle for part of the 2021 season. He also chipped in during the 2022 campaign as well. Last year Nelson suffered a season ending ankle injury and then missed the rest of the season. The Lions didn't bring him back.

They'll probably have the option to this year becasue Nelson is projected to be cut before the season. For a team that's looking for it's swing tackle, here's a guy to definitely keep an eye on.

    CB Tre Herndon

It was a bit of surprise that the Lions never went after Herndon in free agency. The veteran corner is coming off his best career season with the help of new Lions' defensive backs coach Deshea Townsend.

Herndon is expected to be cut by the Giants at the end of the month, the Lions may want to consider a reunion with Townsend. Even if it means that Herndon is a practice squad guy.
