Hopkinton Promotes Age and Dementia Friendly Community Initiative
By MyFM’s Claire Beverly – Hopkinton’s town manager says the town continues its active involvement with the Age and Dementia Friendly Community initiative. Elaine Lazarus says it’s part of an overall goal to make Hopkinton a safe, nurturing and inviting place to live and work for seniors, people living with dementia, their loved ones, and caregivers. She says there are periodic Dementia Friends Information sessions that help you learn some of the things you can do to make a difference. The next one in Hopkinton is in October.
Milford Teen Facing Charges for Loaded Gun in Shrewsbury Traffic Stop
By MyFM’s Claire Beverly – A Milford teen is facing charges after he was allegedly found with a loaded gun in a car in Shrewsbury. It happened July 14 when a Shrewsbury officer pulled the car over on Route 9. The officer says there were six people in the car and when it stopped two of them ran. But the officer spotted one guy trying to conceal a bag under the seat. A search of the bag allegedly turned up a loaded 9mm handgun. 18-year-old Nicolas Alves-Santos reportedly faces possession of a firearm without a license and several more counts.

Westborough and Southborough Electronics Recycling Event on July 27
By MyFM’s Claire Beverly – If you have old electronics you need to get rid of, residents of Westborough and Southborough can take part in a recycling and sustainability event on Saturday, July 27, at the Westborough Senior Center. There are some fees attached ranging from $5 to $45 but they are taking things like computers, flat-screen TVs, microwaves, refrigerators, water heaters, mattresses and more. New Swim School Opening in Milford at DoubleTree Hilton

The British Swim School is a franchised swimming and water survival skill school with more than 300 locations around the US and Canada. A Shrewsbury couple will run the Milford school from the pool at the DoubleTree Hilton-Milford. The Worcester Business Journal reports it’s a true family affair, with their daughter serving as aquatics manager and their son operations manager. You can take lessons in Milford on Monday through Thursday afternoons from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

In June 2022, local climate group Mothers Out Front convened for a regularly scheduled brunch to tackle a problem. Brookline had set a goal of reaching net-zero carbon emissions by 2040. But residents who wanted to phase out home appliances powered by fossil fuels were unsure of where to begin.
Tewksbury woman plans to buy new car with lottery winnings
A lucky day for Hillary Fetters of Tewksbury, as she became the winner of a $120,000 prize after the numbers she played on her Keno ticket were among those selected in a game drawn on June 25. Fetters initial $40,000 prize was upped to $120,000, after a 3X Bonus multiplier was drawn for the game. Fetters elected to add the bonus multiplier to her wager for an additional dollar per game. Fetters claimed her prize on July 18 at the Massachusetts State Lottery Headquarters in Dorchester. She said she plans to buy a new car with her winnings.
Milford High Students Write Song to Support Mental Health

The students took part in a project from the National Museum of Mental Health and together wrote a song called “What Makes You Well?” Patch reports the four-minute song was written and recorded at Milford High during the late spring Community Songwriting program and it was done in a collaboration between students, teachers, admin, and the district’s Director of Social Emotional Learning.
