SACATON — Sandra “Sandy” Manuel, 63, died on July 3, 2024. Ms. Manuel was born on Oct. 9, 1960, in Prescott, the youngest daughter of Herman Manuel and Lorraine Johnson. She grew up riding horses with her childhood friend Bago near Prescott on the Yavapai Prescott Indian Reservation. One of the highlights in her childhood was attending the Fourth of July celebration in Prescott with her seven siblings: brothers Hernandez, Carlos, John, Joseph and Larry and sisters Elaine and Wanda.

Bicyclist Injured in Collision with Vehicle on South Main Street in Cottonwood
Cottonwood, AZ, July 10, 2024 - On Tuesday around 4:30 P.M., Cottonwood Police responded to the 600 block of South Main Street for a person riding a motorized bicycle that struck a vehicle. The bicyclist, a 52-year-old male from Cottonwood, was riding his motorized bicycle in the bike lane against traffic on South Main Street, approaching the side entrance to Footework Auto License & Title Service. The bicyclist collided with the front passenger side of this vehicle as the vehicle exited the parking lot to go southbound on South Main Street. The person on the bicycle was ejected and landed on the roadway.

PVPD K9 Kato Sniffs Out 38 Pounds of Meth and 20,000 Fentanyl Pills. On July 9, 2024, at 9:48AM, Erik Zamora-Bernal (Age 33) and Eduardo Ramirez (Age 18), both of Phoenix, Arizona, were arrested for several felony narcotics related charges after being stopped by the Prescott Valley Police Department for a civil traffic violation in the 10000 block of State Route 69.
Fentanyl and Meth Seized During PV Traffic Stop
Prescott Valley Police seized 38-pounds of meth and 20,000-fentanyl pills during a recent traffic stop on Highway-69. Officials say contact was made with 33-year-old Erik Zamora-Bernal and 18-year-old Eduardo Ramirez, both of Phoenix Arizona. K-9 Kato alerted to the vehicle at which time the drugs were found. Both admitted to their involvement and were jailed on felony drug charges.

We ended this recruiting cycle with 99 applicants, 44 of which moved on to oral interview panels. The interviews spanned the week of the 8th, so I don’t yet know the number of people that will be moving to the chief’s interviews. I’d like to thank our panel: Captains Seets and Smith, Engineer Hall, Fire Marshall Tirpak, and HR Specialist Baylee Reed! Interviewing that many applicants over the course of four days is no small task.
Lithium Battery Cause of House Fire in Prescott Valley
Central Arizona Fire responded to a house fire on North Noel Court that was started by a lithium battery. Officials say they arrived Thursday to find the fire in a bedroom where an electric skateboard caught fire while it was being charged. The homeowner initially tried to smother the fire with a blanket, but it quickly caught fire as well. The resident then used a garden hose to douse the flames. No injuries were reported.

Arizona Humane Society rescues two kittens from walls, encourages community to foster
PHOENIX — Two kittens once stuck in walls found homes after Arizona Humane Society intervened in April. Emergency animal medical technician Andy Gallo recovered the kittens, who were each debilitated for a few days. Susu was found to be suffering from dehydration and in need of eye medication, whereas the AHS trauma hospital discovered Cotton had wounds in several paws from his escape attempts.

Fentanyl drug bust in Prescott leads to 2 arrests thanks to police K9, Kato
PRESCOTT, Ariz. - Two people were arrested and nearly 20,000 fentanyl pills were taken off the streets in Prescott, thanks in part to a police K9 named Kato. According to a release, officers led Kato for a sniff around a vehicle during a traffic stop when the K9 detected the presence of narcotics.
