Opioid settlement fuels treatment center
PARK HILL – The $25 million price tag for a new drug and alcohol treatment center is paid for by opioid manufacturers the Cherokee Nation sued in 2017. The tribe filed suit against drugmakers McKesson, AmerisourceBergen Drug Corp. and Cardinal Health, which led to a settlement of $75 million-plus in 2021. The Cherokee Nation also settled with e-cigarette maker Juul in 2022 over the company’s role in youth vaping. Those settlements were funneled into the Public Health and Wellness Fund Act of 2021 – amended most recently in 2023 – which dedicates $100 million for a variety of public health programs, including $76 million for drug treatment capital projects.

(AP) — Oklahoma’s Bixby school district has lots to show off for a fast-growing Tulsa suburb, including a state-of-the-art new high school and plans for a $12 million upgrade to its football complex. But, what the district does not have as students returned this week is a Bible in every classroom.
