AAA: Crude oil costs drive up Arkansas gas prices
(The Center Square) - Gas prices increased in Arkansas this week as crude oil prices rebounded, AAA said Thursday. The average cost of gas statewide rose six cents from last week to $3.13 a gallon, AAA said. That average is still 36 cents less per gallon than this day last year and remains below the national average. Arkansas has the eighth-lowest gas price average in the country, according to AAA. ...
Two Arkansas Women Startled by Encounter with Mountain Lions
Two Arkansas women were hiking at an Arkansas State Park at Hawksbill Crag at Whitaker Point in Newton County late Monday evening when they encountered two mountain lions. The women had hiked to one of Arkansas' most photographed mountain bluffs in the state Hawksbill Crag at Whitaker Point hoping to get a glimpse of the Perseid Meteor Shower but instead got a glimpse of two mountain lions too close for comfort.

Dollar General wants location on North Jackson Street
Magnolia may soon have its third Dollar General store, raising the total in Columbia County to seven. The Magnolia Planning Commission will hear a request at its 5 p.m. Monday, August 19, 2024 meeting from Rozier Construction. The request seeks a variance – an exception to zoning regulations – that would allow for a new retail commercial building at 1105 N. Jackson to exceed square footage requirements for the available lot.
