City Resident Accuses City Of Targeting His Property
A City of Jamestown resident is accusing the City for targeting him after his property received multiple housing code violations. Eighth Street resident Tom Andolora, speaking at City Council Monday, claimed Mayor Kim Ecklund and Director of Development Crystal Surdyk are targeting people who are speaking out against the City, “I know because I feel they are targeting my home. My family has owned it, and taken good care of it and paid taxes on it every year since 1955. Two weeks ago I received a letter in the mail with a pile of violations on my property. In 75 years, we never received a single violation. Now, because I’ve spoken out against the Mayor and the DOD, I have a list of violations that I have 10 days to resolve.”
Village of Westfield Awarded $920,000 NY SWIMS Grant
As Labor Day weekend approaches, Governor Kathy Hochul on Thursday announced capital grants to fund 37 projects across New York as part of the NY SWIMS initiative, and one of them is in Chautauqua County. The Village of Westfield has been awarded $920,000 to renovate the Welch Field Pool. The funds will be used to renovate the concrete deck and pool house with a new ADA-compliant facility, including ADA-compliant showers, restrooms and sinks. It's part of a $150 million investment to support pools in underserved communities which is, according to Hochul, the state's biggest investment in swimming since the New Deal.

County Legislator Dave Wilfong Announces His Resignation
Republican County Legislator Dave Wilfong has announced his resignation from the Chautauqua County Legislature. Wilfong, who represents District 11 in the city of Jamestown, was the Majority Leader of the Legislature as of this term. He announced that today, August 29, would be the effective date of his resignation from the Legislature, Airport Commission, Audit & Control Committee, and Planning & Economic Development Committee.
Jamestown BPU Closed For Labor Day Holiday
Garbage and recycling will not be collected on that day. Due to the holiday, Monday’s regular garbage and recycling collection will be delayed until Tuesday, September 3. County Legislature Approves Setting General Fund Balance Target
After more than a half hour of discussion, the Chautauqua County Legislature approved setting a target for the general fund balance. The update to the County’s Financial Management Policy includes the language that the County “…shall strive to maintain unobligated fund balance of not less than 5% and not more than 15% of General Fund budgeted appropriations, including interfund transfers, with a target of 12.5%.”
Jamestown Considering ARPA Funds to Cover Remaining Cost of Splash Pads
City lawmakers in Jamestown are considering using additional leftover American Rescue Plan funding to fill a $100,000 gap to pay for the city's two new splash pads.
