UPPER PENINSULA, Mich. (WJMN) — Respectable catch numbers were reported from just about every location in the Upper Peninsula last week… except one. According to the latest fishing report from the Department of Natural Resources, it was Munising where anglers got the short end of the stick. The report said people fishing 150-250 feet down […]

Which Michigan football freshmen could play early? Sherrone Moore has some answers
INDIANAPOLIS — Recruiting is the lifeblood of any college football program and Michigan football is no different. Though the Wolverines don’t bring in copious amounts of five-stars, the program lies somewhere in between being a recruiting juggernaut and a developmental program. And no matter how good the returning personnel might be, there are always a few first-year players who manage to find themselves on the field in year one. Last year, it was Semaj Morgan — who excelled at both wide receiver and eventually punt returner — who stole the show, but a handful of other players impressed in year one. So who...
Watch all of Michigan RB Donovan Edwards Big Ten media days press conference
INDIANAPOLIS — ‘The Don’ is increasingly popular. The Michigan football star running back already has on-field accolades, but his popularity is growing even more, both as he becomes the starting running back as well as with him being on the cover of the all-new EA Sports College Football 25 video game. On Thursday, Edwards shared his expectations for the season, his experience shooting the video game cover, thoughts on Sherrone Moore and the 145th iteration of the Wolverines, and much more. WolverinesWire was on-hand at Lucas Oil Stadium for the entirety of Edwards’ 30-minute press conference. You can watch nearly all of his appearance below. Edwards is expected to be the starting running back, with Kalel Mullings — the converted linebacker who was the third back last year — stepping in behind him. Ever growing as a leader, Edwards continues to evoke his faith and has become more humble after his 2023 season didn’t work out as he had initially anticipated.
Michigan excited by possibility of facing Ohio State two, even three times in a season: 'Let's do it'
INDIANAPOLIS — For decades, it has been called "The Game." But beginning this fall, it could be referred to as "The Games." For more than a century, the Michigan and Ohio State football teams have measured their seasons against each other as arch-rivals, battling for superiority against each other atop the Big Ten. The two teams have won the league's last seven Big Ten championships, and five of their last seven meetings have determined the winner of the Big Ten East division title.
After tumultuous year, Donovan Edwards is more humble
INDIANAPOLIS — Michigan football running back Donovan Edwards was thrust into the limelight in his sophomore year, not only having a big game against Penn State midseason, but also taking over for star tailback Blake Corum after his knee injury. Edwards thrived, with two 75-plus yard touchdowns at rival Ohio State to clinch the Big Ten East Division title and cement the Wolverines into the College Football Playoff. He followed that up with a big championship game against Purdue and had some stellar runs in the playoff against TCU. As a result, Edwards was outspoken about his abilities. He planned to go pro...

Totally Tubular Festival and more tops metro area music weekend
For Tom Bailey and others on the bill, packages such as this weekend’s Totally Tubular Festival are a kind of old home week — in this case for fellow veterans of the early ’80s new wave scene in the U.S. and the U.K. “There’s a little bit...
The Whippoorwill Bar and Grill
“The Fake Ad is on page 42 for the Whippoorwill Bar and Grill,” writes the always reliable David Karl. “Ah yes, who hasn’t been driven to insomnia by the constant nighttime singing of the Whip-poor-will. I know I have. But unlike Thurber’s Mr. Kinstrey, I just took a sleeping pill and called it a night. Much easier, less hassle and mess free.”
Michigan’s ‘bison wrangler’ shares secrets of the Domino’s Farms herd
ANN ARBOR — On the northeast edge of Ann Arbor, between M-14 and Domino’s Farms, is where the buffalo roam. There, drivers on their daily commute can often catch a glimpse of a herd of 75 bison, grazing across a 90-acre pasture that is part of the Domino’s Farms complex. If they look closely enough, they may also see the beat-up red Ford pickup of Todd Crocker, the herd’s official bison wrangler.
U-M Kellogg Institute Building
“I Spy the wonderful glass and copper Fletcher Street entry to the Kellogg Institute Building,” writes Eric Sobocinski. “The OG Dentistry building at 299 Fletcher has such beautiful lines in their glasswork,” says Mary Adams. “Completed in 1940,” adds Dave Bicknell, “it was the original home for dental education, which has since expanded.” “We moved here recently and I am feeling very proud of this one!” says Rediane Longoria. “With such impressive design I could not forget this door.”
Why Are There Still “Township Islands” Within the City of Ann Arbor?
Starting more than a century ago, when Ann Arbor built its water and sewer system, owners of property that hadn’t yet been annexed to the city had a choice: accept annexation and connect to city services or keep their own wells and septic systems and stay in their townships.
Teacher remembers drowned Ann Arbor man for talent on stage
ANN ARBOR, MI - What his student could have been, in some ways, haunts Alex Leydenfrost. If it hadn’t been for the pandemic, Leydenfrost has no doubts Aleksei Makovik would have been acting professionally or in a conservatory to learn his craft. He wouldn’t have been in Michigan.
Rubin: How a ghost brought white supremacists to Howell — to the city's dismay
The white supremacist rally that interrupted the mayor's lunch in Howell on Saturday wasn't overly impressive, really — just a dozen or so nitwits, and one ghost. The nitwits were chased off by a woman from the local library board. The ghost has had more staying power, but the city is trying to...
Jim Harbaugh Takes Apparent Shot At Ryan Day In Chargers Video
Jim Harbaugh is now the head coach for the Los Angeles Chargers after winning the College Football Playoff national title with Michigan. But, even though he isn't in Ann Arbor anymore, it doesn't mean the Michigan-Ohio State rivalry is over. The Chargers released a hype video to get fans ...
