Maidu's offense runs dry in 6-1 loss to Lafayette
Maidu’s run for a state championship came two games short, as the All-Star team made up of 10-and-11-year olds lost to Lafayette, 6-1, on Thursday night in Chico. Playing their sixth game in six days, Maidu had to have been a bit fatigued, not to mention much deeper into their pitching pool, while Lafayette was playing only their fourth game of the tournament having no games on Monday and Wednesday.
Gov. Gavin Newsom’s proposed ban on smartphone use in California schools would do more harm than good
A statewide ban on smartphone use in schools would run into the same enforcement problems as local restrictions – while also taking agency away from the school community. At Rocklin High School, uneven enforcement already hinders school administrators’ efforts to keep phones out of the classroom. The phone pocket policy, for example, is applied differently from teacher to teacher, creating friction between staff and frustration among students. Newsom’s proposal does not specify whether students would be allowed to keep their phones with them during the school day. If they are, this will continue to be an issue regardless of whether the rule comes from the principal or from the governor.

Orinda Celebrates 4th of July
The streets were packed again this year for The Orinda Association’s 40th Annual 4th of July Parade – and this came in spite of an epic heatwave. Orindans braved the record temps to celebrate our nation’s birth by taking part in what many have called the best hometown parade in the Bay Area. All ages cheered on the parade participants by waving flags and the crowd was filled with colorfully-adorned youngsters and oldsters alike. Kids enjoyed candy giveaways – at least until it ran out – and everyone danced to the classic rock tunes of TinMan at the after parade party in Orinda Community Park.
Experiencing the Lamorinda Idol for the Very First Time Last Year

But let me just say, attending it IRL (in real life) was an experience of a lifetime.
