Muddy Paws Rescue NYC is a non-profit animal rescue organization based in New York City. Their mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and find loving homes for dogs in need, particularly those at risk of euthanasia in overcrowded shelters.

Recently Muddy Paws Rescue introduced Twinkle and Mugsy, two small dogs with a heartbreaking story.

Animal Care Centers of NYC asked Muddy Paws Rescue to help finding them a home, after the 2 dogs were brought to ACC by the NYPD after they were found in an apartment alongside deceased dogs, and a deceased owner.

The conditions were noted to be 'deplorable'. Understandably, they were terrified, shutdown, and debilitatingly overwhelmed in a shelter environment. - Muddy Paws Rescue NYC

Because of their actions at the shelter, they were rated as Level 5-New Hope Only, meaning that only a rescue partner may take them.

Notes included "thrashes intensely on leash and growl at handlers when fearful" and "due to the high levels of fear, stress, and anxiety displayed, not a candidate to receive a handling assessment". - Muddy Paws Rescue NYC

The 2 dogs were taken on foster care and are already going incredible, making huge progress.

Twinkle is now comfortable enough to go to happy hours and consents to having his tummy petted by strangers. Thanks to the other dogs in the house, Mugsy has offered a few soft kisses and is starting to come out of his shell.

Twinkle and Mugsy share the same sad 'Once upon a time..." but we're hoping their 'happily ever after' comes soon.
