Darius became the ruler of Babylon. He admired Daniel and intended to make him ruler of the entire kingdom. Because of Darius's intention, jealousy gripped several of the king's wise men.
The wise men knew Daniel prayed to God, they tricked the king into adopting a new law, that said that anyone who prayed to God would be thrown into the den of lions.
Daniel chose to pray to God nonetheless. When the king's wise men saw Daniel praying, they informed him that Daniel was breaking the law.
The king realized his wise men had tricked him. Darius attempted to find a way to spare Daniel, but the monarch was bound by his laws. The king said to Daniel:
“May your God, whom you serve continually, rescue you!”
Daniel was thrown into the den of lions. To ensure Daniel's safety, the king stayed awake all night, fasting. The king hurried to the lions' den the next morning at dawn. He called Daniel to see if he was still alive:
“Daniel, servant of the living God, has your God, whom you serve continually, been able to rescue you from the lions?”
Daniel answered back:
"May the king live forever! My God sent his angel, and he shut the mouths of the lions. They have not hurt me, because I was found innocent in his sight. Nor have I ever done any wrong before you, Your Majesty.”
The king was glad Daniel was safe. The wise men who tricked him were punished, and the law was abolished. Darius taught his kingdom about the power and goodness of God.

Prophet Daniel Abodunrin performed his daring miracle at the University of Ibadan's zoological garden, in 1991. Prophet Daniel Abodunrin arrived at the zoo dressed in red.
Prophet Daniel Abodunrin reportedly sneaked into a cage full of lions in order to demonstrate to them that the God Daniel served in the old days still exists. Prophet Daniel Abodunrin entered the lion's den, with the Holy Bible beneath his armpit. People who were present at the zoo tried to urge him to come back, but he refused.
Prophet Daniel Abodunrin was praying and speaking in tongues as he entered the cage. He was also reading from the Bible. He begged Daniel's God to do what he did in the Bible, to save him like He saved Daniel. The lions retreated backward after seeing Prophet Daniel Abodunrin.
Prophet Daniel Abodunrin kept moving close to the lions, and then they attacked him. According to several eyewitnesses, when the lions attacked Prophet Daniel Abodunrin, his Bible fell to the ground.
The lions attacked Prophet Daniel Abodunrin and killed him. Following the incident, many Nigerians condemned Prophet Daniel Abodunrin for what they called reckless behavior.
