A beloved family-friendly celebration is returning to the picturesque seaside town of Scituate for its 55th year! Scituate Heritage Days celebrates the coastal town’s charming community and local history with themed events, family-friendly activities, and more!

According to the Scituate Chamber of Commerce, Scituate Heritage Days 2024 will kick off the weekend with a Lighted Boat Parade and Blessing of The Fleet through Scituate Harbor on the evening of August 2nd, which they explain is "fast becoming a Scituate Chamber of Commerce Heritage Days tradition." Interested in being a part of the celebration? The Chamber explains that you can decorate your boat and then join in to "Light up the night by joining the Lighted Boat Parade and Blessing of the Fleet. Boats line up outside Scituate Harbor at the SA Gong at 8:15pm and proceed into the inner harbor." Docked boats are also encouraged to participate as well. In case of choppy seas, the parade will gather inside the harbor.

If you attend the Lighted Boat Parade, you may wonder why there seem to be a lot of purple lights in particular. The Chamber explains that this is a special event, the Scituate Heritage Days Purple Heart Luminaria.

"Scituate, Massachusetts has been proclaimed a Purple Heart Community, honoring the service and sacrifice of those from our community who were awarded the Purple Heart while serving our nation's wars," explains the Chamber. "On August 2nd we urge our citizens and organizations to display the American flag and purple expressions of recognition in honor of our Purple Heart recipients." They also inform the community that a limited amount of purple Luminaria Bags will be available to residents after July 26th. Bags will be available for pick-up at The Inn At Scituate Harbor.

The fun continues into the next day as the family-friendly festival begins at 9 am on August 3rd at Cole Parkway and will continue into the next day, August 4th. The festival promises a fun-filled weekend, with activities for every member of the family, including:
