The Full Plate Project has revealed the YMCA Southcoast's Full Plate mobile market schedule for August 2024 has been released. These mobile markets, hosted at local YMCAs, are open to anyone in need and offer each household items such as prepackaged fresh, frozen, and pantry food items (while supplies last). There are no eligibility, town residency, or Y membership requirements, and it is open to all who are in need.
What Is The Full Plate Project?
According to the YMCA Southcoast website, their partnership with the Greater Boston Food Bank, known as the Full Plate Project, was established in April 2020 to address food insecurity during the pandemic. The YMCA explains “It quickly grew into one of the largest hunger relief agencies in the Southcoast region.” The food is made available "at mobile markets at five Y branches, delivered to affordable housing sites, and via community partnerships to people we wouldn’t otherwise be able to reach."
How Does Mobile Markets Work?
The YMCA Southcoast's Full Plate mobile markets are made to be as easy. The YMCA Southcoast explains what to expect, stating on their website:
"Participants will be asked to provide basic information including zip code and the number of people living in their household. No photo ID is required. Y Community Market locations are open to all Southcoast residents, you do not need to be a YMCA member! Markets typically last an hour and a half or less when food runs out, which happens often. Each household will receive pre-packaged bags of groceries that include a variety of nonperishable items, as well as fresh produce and meats when available. Items vary, based on availability."
According to the Full Plate Project, the upcoming August 2024 mobile markets will be held at the following times and locations:
Dartmouth YMCA - Every 2nd & 4th Tuesday
Please note that as of June, the Dartmouth mobile food market has a new summer location at St. Mary's Catholic Parish, located at 795 Dartmouth Street
8/13 & 8/27 at 2:30 pm
Please do not enter the parking lot until 2:00 pm
Fall River YMCA - Every 1st Friday
8/2 at 8:30 am
Gleason Family YMCA, Wareham - Every 2nd & 4th Friday
