Boat speed rule on Okoboji lakes to expire Saturday morning
OKOBOJI, Iowa -- An emergency rule that restricted boat speeds on the Iowa Great Lakes for over a month will be lifted at 6 a.m. Saturday, local officials announced Thursday. Following torrential rains in the region late last month, the Dickinson County Emergency Management Commission on June 18 imposed a 5 mile-per-hour speed limit on all lakes in the county. The so-called "no wake" rule stymied skiing, tubing and personal watercraft use at the popular summertime destination, which generates over $300 million in tourism annually.
