DICKINSON, ND ( KXNET ) — On Thursday, the man in charge of the North Dakota University System was in Dickinson to address the current turmoil on campus.

Chancellor Mark Hagerott met with faculty and campus leaders at Dickinson State University. This comes after DSU President Steve Easton announced this week he’ll resign.

Right now, negotiations are happening to hire back the nursing faculty who also quit last week.

During the meeting on Thursday, Hagerott said Easton remains the president, but the next step will be choosing an acting president and an interim president.

“The interim president will be a search. We want to do a search. It could be someone internal. It could be internal or external,” Hagerott said in the meeting.

“The idea that you’re going to hire new faculty, onboard them, and get them up to speed is not going to happen. I don’t care what you do,” Rep. Eric Murphy said when referring to trying to hire new nursing faculty at the university.

Next week, DSU leaders will give an update to the state board of nursing as to what plans are for the fall semester.

Meanwhile, campus leaders have been in contract negotiations with faculty members who quit.

On Thursday, the North Dakota Nursing Association issued a statement about the current problems at DSU. You can read that statement here .
