Day 2 at the NYS Fair: Today’s handpicked menu and schedule
Geddes, N.Y. — Welp, Opening Day at the 2024 New York State Fair had its ups, its downs and its sideways. What had been dubbed (by me) the Year of the Goat suddenly turned into the Hour of the Goat. The 100 dwarf goats brought to the Horticulture Building to cuddle with patrons had to turn around Wednesday and go home after one of them came down with a virus that could harm other animals. If you are a parent trying to manage the usage of mobile phones and tablets by your children, you know how difficult of a task it can be. Imagine being a teacher trying to manage that usage in a classroom full of students. Even for the most disciplined child, having a smartphone can be a huge distraction. Another local school district is putting a policy in place to help manage that distraction.

NEW YORK (AP) — New York state lawyers urged an appeals court late Wednesday to uphold Donald Trump’s nearly $500 million civil fraud judgment, arguing there’s “overwhelming evidence” to support a judge’s finding that the former president lied for years about his wealth as he built his real estate empire.
