Businesses in Cadillac, Lake City pleased with July 4 turnout
CADILLAC — It was a busy July 4 weekend as both Cadillac and Lake City hosted festivals to celebrate the holiday. Festival organizers in both cities added a few new activities this year in an effort to bring more people into town. After it was said and done, organizers and area businesses said they were pleased with the turnout and deemed the holiday weekend a success.

Michigan's Monsoon season leads to full lakes
CADILLAC — It has been a wet couple of months and Wexford County Drain Michael Solomon has the stats to prove it. Although the recent rains have been great for boating conditions on Lakes Cadillac and Mitchell, they also have been somewhat historic. Solomon said that in the last four months, the Cadillac area has received 17.57 inches of rain, including 6.54 inches during June.

Muskegon man charged in 2023 death of Manistee woman
On July 12, 2024, Dennis Dozier, 20, of Muskegon was arraigned in the 85th District Court by the Honorable Judge Henry. Dozier is charged with one count of Delivery of a Controlled Substance Causing Death and one count of Using a Computer to Commit a Crime, according to a release from Manistee Chief of Police, Josh Glass.

CADILLAC — Walraven’s Market in Cadillac was one of 31 small businesses that received $25,000 in grant dollars from the Match on Main program. Recently, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced roughly $748,000 in grants was used to provide Michigan Strategic Fund support through the Michigan Economic Development Corporation program. The program’s focus is to create resiliency and strengthen downtowns in communities throughout the state.
Cadillac area power outage Thursday part of planned maintenance
CADILLAC — On Thursday night, many people in the Cadillac area took to social media with a shared question, “Why’s the power out?”. The answer, while not immediately known, was simple. Consumers Energy had a planned maintenance that shut down power in various townships in Lake, Osceola and Wexford counties beginning late Thursday night and continuing until early Friday morning. The townships impacted included Burdell, Cherry Grove, Clam Lake, Dover, Ellsworth, Highland, LeRoy, Newkirk, Rose Lake, Selma and Sherman.

There is a garden in Southwest Detroit that grows shishito, jalapeño and habanero peppers. In another bed, there is chamomile, chocolate mint and mojito mint. There are three kinds of thyme, sage and oregano. There are wild berries, sunflowers, tomatoes, zaatar, three kinds of squash, four kinds of cucumbers and two kinds of watermelons. There is also a sensory garden where children pull cherry tomatoes and taste them.
