Muskegon man charged in 2023 death of Manistee woman
On July 12, 2024, Dennis Dozier, 20, of Muskegon was arraigned in the 85th District Court by the Honorable Judge Henry. Dozier is charged with one count of Delivery of a Controlled Substance Causing Death and one count of Using a Computer to Commit a Crime, according to a release from Manistee Chief of Police, Josh Glass.

Proposed changes to recreation fees identified by HMNFs
CADILLAC – Huron-Manistee National Forests (HMNFs) is proposing changes to recreation fees at developed recreation sites across the forests. “Our fees have not increased in many years, but the cost of operating sites has. We want to continue to provide the best possible experience for forest visitors. If approved, the fee proposal will bring us closer to fee levels charged by other nearby public and private campgrounds and recreation providers and allow us to continue to maintain a high standard at our sites,” said Nick Edington, recreation program manager for the HMNFs.
Saints looking forward to another busy weekend
MANISTEE — Now that they have taken the lead in the Gratiot County Baseball League, the question facing the Manistee Saints is if they can hold it until the finish. The Saints have another four-game weekend in the league ahead with a makeup doubleheader with the Carson City Eagles at Kliber Field on Saturday followed by a trip to Carson City on Sunday, with a 1 p.m. first pitch both days.

ELBERTA, MI – A 35-acre land purchase is in the works on the shores of Lake Michigan and Betsie Bay in a small community south of Frankfort. The project could result in a nature preserve, an expanded municipal park, a trail extension and economic development - and save this shoreline area from commercial development, officials said.
Pile of used oil filters catches fire outside building in Cadillac
CADILLAC — At 10:39 a.m. on July 7, units from the Cadillac Fire Department were sent to 1500 Fourth Ave. in Cadillac for a report of oil filters on fire. Cadillac Fire Department units arrived on scene at 10:44 a.m. and said they found fire and smoke coming from a large pile of used oil filters that are used in the manufacturing process. The fire was contained to a single area on the exterior of the structure. Fire crews remained on scene performing extinguishment operations until 12:57 p.m., officials said. Due to the components involved in the fire, PFAS-free foam was used during the extinguishment operations, officials said.
