80-year-old Michigan man wins big on new lottery routine. ‘Dad, you won the big one!’
A Michigan man changed his lottery routine and quickly hit it big on scratch-offs, lottery officials said. The 80-year-old Lake County man won $300,000 on a Top Secret Cashword scratch-off just days after switching from draw games to instant games, according to a July 1 news release from Michigan Lottery Connect.

Saints finally able to play, split home doubleheader
MANISTEE — Veteran righthanded pitcher Kyle Gorski got the starting assignment in the first game of Sunday afternoon’s Gratiot County Baseball League doubleheader against the St. Louis Spirits at Kliber Field, and he threw a five-inning gem as the Manistee Saints stretched their winning streak to three in a row with a 5-2 victory.

Howard W. Cole, of Cadillac formerly of Saginaw, passed away on Saturday, June 29, 2024 at Samaritas Senior Living. He was 93. Howard was born on February 8, 1931 to Harvey and Mary (Lynett) Cole in Saginaw, Michigan. He resided with William and Virginia Finazzi while working at the family business, Finazzi Produce, until his time of retirement after 50 years. In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time outdoors, cutting wood, fishing, golfing and playing horseshoes. Howard was actively involved in St. Christopher Catholic Church in Bridgeport and later attended St. Ann Catholic Church in Cadillac. He was an honorary member of the Knights of Columbus for many years. He cherished the time spent with his family and especially enjoyed family gatherings.
