Charnes to take over as KND's middle, high school principal

The Bard is returning to Benzie: 'Romeo and Juliet' live July 23-27
Shakespeare is alive and well, and so are Romeo and Juliet. At least until the end of the night. The proof will be onstage at Tank Hill Park as Chicago-based Lakeside Shakespeare brings the Bard’s best-known story to life. The professional acting troupe will stage "Romeo and Juliet" at 7 p.m. nightly from July 23- 27.
Children's farm seeking donations for matching grant challenge
FREE SOIL — Circle Rocking S Children’s Farm is seeking donations for a matching grant challenge. The 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization provides touch therapy and recreation free of charge to people of all ages with disabilities. The farm serves over 800 people with disabilities annually, according to a news release.

The first Cadillac showing of the great motion picture, “The Hunchback of Notre Dame,” was before a large audience at today’s matinee and the reception given the film assures success for the balance of the local run, tonight, Friday and Saturday with exhibitions each day at 2:15, 7 and 9:15 p.m. One of the best things about the screen is that the masterpieces are just as big in Cadillac as they are in New York and Mitchell Street audiences can see exactly the same thing that is seen on Broadway. In the case of no other form of dramatic entertainment is this true and the popularity of the films is based to a large extent on this certainty. The entire production is one that every person should see. There is nothing that has yet eclipsed it on the screen and anything superlative is an event for a small city. Occasions such as this occur only after long intervals and are usually traceable to the enterprise of some large concern, such as the Fitzpatrick-McElroy Co., owners of the Lyric circuit, as an independent exhibitor could not afford to rent a film that cost as much to produce as did “The Hunchback.” It is the request of Manager Frank Anderson that as many as can conveniently do so, attend the evenings open for those whose only opportunity to attend will be after the working day is finished.

Hill Harper spoke at the Art Park on the east end of River Street for about 30 minutes in front of a crowd of more than 20 before heading to Benzie County, Cadillac and Brighton as part of his campaign trail.
Workshop Planned for Parents on Social Media Safety
Several agencies are partnering to host a free workshop for parents on social media and how to stay safe online on Thursday, July 25 at Gilbert Lodge in Long Lake Township. The Coalition to Combat Human Trafficking, Michigan State Police Computer Crimes Unit, and Grand Traverse and other surrounding counties will be hosting the presentation, which will be given by MSP's Sgt. Travis Kirschner. According to the program description, social media can play a huge role in teens and drug use, exposing them to offers from dealers to buy drugs through various social sites.

Council approves construction of 2 microparks, tasting room application
CADILLAC — The city of Cadillac will be home to a couple of new park areas thanks to a grant provided by Consumers Energy. The city council on Monday unanimously approved the construction of two “microparks” — one on Haynes Street and the other on the White Pine Trail.
