Ancient Cherokee game returns for holiday
TAHLEQUAH – The ancient game of Cherokee marbles will carry on at this year’s Cherokee National Holiday as teams battle it out at the Cherokee Heritage Center. The game – which some Cherokee historians claim has been around since 800 A.D. – is played using marbles the size of billiard balls on a 100-foot field with five holes. The holiday marbles tournament is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Aug. 31.
