Women’s Lacrosse: Alaimo Wins Gold with Team USA at World U20 Championships
Hong Kong, China (CVILLE RIGHT NOW): The US Squad at the World U20 Women’s Lacrosse Championships has won gold in Hong Kong. The team, that featured UVA’s single season freshman assist leader, attacker Madison Alaimo, played seven games in the tournament and won each one by double digits, including their final victory against Canada in the gold medal game.

Hanover man dies when moped is struck in Henrico
A 72-year-old man from Hanover County died just after midnight Saturday in a two-vehicle crash on Mechanicsville Turnpike, according to Henrico Police. The crash occurred at around 12:06 a.m. near Springdale Road. A preliminary investigation indicated that Billy Chestnut was driving a moped that became disabled while it was traveling north on Mechanicsville Turnpike. A sedan, also traveling north, approached the moped from behind and changed lanes in an attempt to avoid another slow-moving vehicle but instead struck the moped and Chestnut, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Lawn Room Roofs Regain Their Original Profiles
CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (UVA Today) – The University of Virginia’s Academic Village is looking more like Thomas Jefferson intended. This summer, work crews replaced the roof over the student rooms between pavilions VI and VIII, a structure that encapsulates the historic fabric of the original Jeffersonian roofs. When Thomas Jefferson designed UVA’s Academical Village, he envisioned flat roofs over the student rooms, so he designed an angled, serrated roof topped with a flat deck. The water was supposed to run through the deck boards and into the tin-lined valleys of the wood-serrated roofs before running off onto the ground.

Jordaine Penick Aims to Make History at South Boston Speedway
Sixteen-year-old Jordaine Penick is on the verge of making history at South Boston Speedway, potentially becoming the second female driver to win a division title in the track's history. Ebony VFD hosts Touch a Truck
The Ebony Volunteer Fire Department hosted a Touch a Truck event on Saturday, August 17, 2024 in Ebony. South Boston Woman Arrested for Assault after Stabbing Incident, Faces Arraignment and Active Warrants
South Boston was the scene of a stabbing late Sunday night, leading to the arrest of a local woman on charges of assault and battery. Boston Police Department reports that officers from District C-6 responded to the incident at around 11:37 PM, near 112 Southampton Street after receiving a call about a person who had been stabbed.
