Presque Isle and Fort Fairfield pitmasters take top BBQ cook-off trophies
After pulling an all-nighter preparing feasts, five barbecue groups took home trophies in the Chamber’s Smokin’ BBQ Cook-off on Saturday. The sixth annual event, sponsored by the Central Aroostook Chamber of Commerce, took place on the first day of the Maine Potato Blossom Festival in Fort Fairfield, drawing cooks from The County and beyond.

Maine’s Kittery Premium Outlets has seven new retailers this summer and will soon add an eighth in Vineyard Vines. The newest shops at Kittery Premium Outlets, which anchor the town’s collection of outlet shopping centers, include a combined Carter’s and OshKosh B’Gosh clothing store, a Claire’s gift store, the home furnishing shop Mélange Home, Perfume Palace, the sneaker shop Limited Hype and Jack’s Country Store. Vineyard Vines is slated to open next spring.
Longtime Downtown Waterville Store Slated to Close Later This Month
For the last decade or so, many Central Maine residents have become familiar with the Re-Store. It's indeed a store, operated by Waterville Area Habitat for Humanity. Since its inception, the store has sold various pre-loved home-goods and building materials to the general public. The store, which has served the community well in its mission to provide affordable alternatives to brand-new (more expensive) merchandise, will be closing its doors later this month, the Kennebec Journal reported.

MILFORD (WGME) -- A Maine man is accused of assaulting a woman, locking children inside a room, and threatening to blow up a house in Milford. The Penobscot County Sheriff's Office says they got a report on Monday around 12:50 a.m. that 46-year-old William Abernathy of Milford had assaulted a woman and was threatening to blow up their house.
