FIRE DESTROYS HOME NEAR HOMER CITY
Nine fire departments were called to the scene of a house fire in Homer City Wednesday night. Indiana County 911 reported that firefighters from Homer City, Coral-Graceton, Indiana, Brush Valley, Black Lick and Blairsville were initially dispatched at 9:20 PM to the home at 115 Pine Street in Center Township, with crews from Aultman, Clyde and Coal Run called out four minutes later to provide additional assistance. Homer City Assistant Fire Chief Joe Iezzi, Jr. told us what he saw when he first arrived.
Indiana University of Pennsylvania receives $2 million from alumni
Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) has announced a $2 million gift from alumni Tim and Debra Phillips Cejka to help establish a college of osteopathic medicine. IUP has formally initiated steps toward accreditation of its proposed college of osteopathic medicine from the American Osteopathic Association’s Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation, a three- to five-year process that includes submission of self-studies and a feasibility study, along with site visits. Securing clinical training sites for students is part of the successful accreditation process—IUP and Punxsutawney Area Hospital signed a clinical training affiliation agreement for students in IUP’s proposed college of osteopathic medicine.

$5.9M in Tax Credits to Boost Affordable Housing in Philadelphia
HARRISBURG, PA — Senator Vincent Hughes has announced substantial funding for affordable housing in Philadelphia’s 7th district. Over $5.9 million in Low Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC) will support four new rental housing projects, bringing 163 affordable units to the area. Of these, 39 units will be accessible for individuals with disabilities. The Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency will manage these tax credits.
