Two Surry Community College science alumni will speak on their research and careers, giving perspective to potential STEM, or science, technology, engineering, and math, career opportunities.

On Thursday, April 18, Jayne Willard, biologist with the National Park Service, will talk about her work on the collapse of the cottonwood tree and implications for wildlife populations in the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area in Minnesota. Winter Gary, executive director with the Highlands Biological Foundation, will speak on conservation work at the Highlands Biological Station in Highlands.

The event, which is free and open to the public as well as students, faculty, and staff, will be held in room A-121 on SCC’s Dobson campus from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.
