After helping members of his family struggling in the current, Benny ‘Benji’ Ernest Bowers Jr., 44, of Dobson was pulled under by the Yadkin River just before 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 28. All manner of local fire, rescue, and law enforcement coordinated a multi-county search and recovery effort for Bowers whose body was found late the next morning. Chairman Van Tucker praised the response efforts and asked the community to remember Bowers family during this time. A GoFundMe has been set up for the family.
