Omaha Public Schools to build mental health facility at Benson High
OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Omaha Public Schools partner with a number of outside agencies to provide health care or after school services. Right now, the district is building a facility on the Benson High School Campus, and is partnering with Project Harmony. 6 News reports the new center is one of the district’s largest, and will focus on mental health.
Nebraska’s Ron Brown to become on-field assistant coach
The Nebraska Cornhuskers announced another change to their coaching staff on Wednesday afternoon. Director of Player Support and Outreach Ron Brown will now coach fullbacks and returners. A recent change to NCAA rules no longer limits the number of coaches who can be employed in an on-field role. Previously, only the head coach and ten assistants were allowed to interact with student-athletes in ‘technical or tactical instruction.’ “The Division I Council on Tuesday approved a rule change… to permit any staff member to provide technical and tactical instruction to student-athletes… during practice and competition.” Brown has a long association with Nebraska football, having coached for the Huskers for 24 years. He served as an assistant from 1987-2003 and again from 2008-14. The Husker coach has coached wide receivers, tight ends, and running backs during his time at Nebraska. He will transition away from his role as Nebraska’s director of player support and outreach into his new on-field role. Omaha homeless organization, mayor say city’s coordinator making an impact
OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Since December 2022, homeless services coordinator Tamara Dwyer has been the city’s go-to for helping with those who don’t have a shelter. “I think she has done a fantastic job,” said Mayor Jean Stothert earlier this week. “I’ve told everybody this — her history — is she had a period of time she was homeless.
