New PA joins surgery team at Winona Health
Physician’s Assistant Madeline Rueb has joined Winona Health and will work with Hans Serleth, M.D., and the plastic, cosmetic, and reconstructive surgery team. “I enjoy the variety of work being a surgical PA involves – from meeting patients, educating them about their procedure and helping to ensure all their questions are answered, to assisting in the OR and follow-up care,” said Rueb. “One of the things I find rewarding is working with people who are pursuing breast reconstruction after cancer treatment. That’s really a special opportunity to make a difference in their lives.”

Winstars 14U softball wins state championship
The Winstars Velocity 14U Red team represented the Winona area well in the Minnesota State Softball Championships that were held from July 20-21 in Mankato, Minn. The Winstars were rolling on Saturday as they put up three blowout wins against 612 Fastpitch Minneapolis 10-2, Becker Blast 8-0, and Chisago Lakes 18-2. The Winstars team had a strong showing against the 3-0 Luverne team Sunday morning but lost the game 8-7 in the last inning as Luverne hit a walk-off double to advance to the championship game. The WinStars were then forced to play against a tough Eagan team to try to win their way back into the championship game. The WinStars girls refused to give up as they battled their way to victory in a12-8 win against Eagan. This win against Eagan earned themselves a chance at redemption against Luverne in the championship game(s). The Winstars needed to beat the undefeated Luverne team twice if they wanted to bring home a state championship due to Luverne being undefeated heading into the final game.

Rice Lake’s 12U youth baseball team is competing at the Wisconsin Little League State Tournament in Kenosha. As the District 3 selection, Rice Lake is one of six teams in the tournament. Higher than normal volume of ‘Pets in car” cases in Eau Claire
EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – Eau Claire Police say they are seeing higher than normal cases of animals being left in hot cars. This can be bad for pets due to suffering from heat exhaustion and discomfort as cars can heat up quickly. The police department says they will contact pet owners after responding to a call, but if no progress has been made they will break the car window.

Two motorcycle riders die after crashing into hill at a Crawford County intersection
A motorcycle reportedly crashed into a rocky hillside near Boscobel late Monday night, killing the two people who were riding on the cycle. The Crawford County sheriff’s office says the motorcycle driven by 43-year-old David Fillyaw of Muscoda crossed a Wisconsin River bridge on Highway 61 at a high rate of speed, and hit the rock wall head-on, instead of turning onto Highway 60 at an intersection.
