Former Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Rich Hill is looking to sign with a team for the rest of the season after taking the first half off to be with his family and coach his son’s Little League team.

Hill reportedly threw for interested clubs on Friday Champion Physical Therapy and Performance in Waltham, Mass. He has reportedly received interest from the Dodgers, New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, and Minnesota Twins.

The veteran attempted to set up his schedule like this ahead of the 2023 season but didn’t follow through. He ended up signing with the Pittsburgh Pirates on a one-year, $8 million deal. He made 22 starts with a 4.76 earned run average.

Pittsburgh sent him to the San Diego Padres at the trade deadline which proved to be a disaster. The club faltered and so did Hill. He was moved to the bullpen and eventually put on waivers but went unclaimed. He recorded an 8.23 ERA in his 10 appearances with San Diego.

Per Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe on X, the free agent was throwing off the mound in July and began drawing interest from the Yankees and Dodgers then.

Hill is only considering contenders as he chases a World Series ring that has alluded him his entire career. He pitched in the postseason for the 2007 Cubs and then the Dodgers from 2016 to 2019, but he was with the Twins in 2020 when the Dodgers won the World Series.

Los Angeles has placed 11 pitchers on the injured list at least once this season. Signing Hill could potentially be an impact addition with River Ryan landing on the IL for the rest of the season on Saturday night.

The 44-year-old has a career 4.01 ERA with more than 19 years of MLB service time. He broke through with the Chicago Cubs where he had one of his best seasons in 2007. He pitched 195 innings that season with a 3.92 ERA.

He struggled from 2008 to 2015 with injuries and underperformance. He didn’t reach 60 innings in any of those seasons but he came roaring back with the Dodgers in 2016. During his tenure in Los Angeles (2016-2020), Hill had a 3.01 ERA, 28.3 percent strikeout rate, and 8.2 percent walk rate in 476 innings.
