August has already been quite a month for the Los Angeles Dodgers.

On YouTube, the Dodgers Nation crew recapped the top 10 moments from the first 11 days of the penultimate month on the regular season calendar. From impressive plays to heartwarming tributes, the Dodgers have already given fans several moments to remember since the calendar turned to August:

    10. Dodgers Alumni Weekend

The Dodgers hosted Alumni Weekend during their home series against the Pittsburgh Pirates from Aug. 9-11. The ceremony commemorated nearly 40 men who wore the Dodgers uniform in the past. The weekend was highlighted by the induction of Dusty Baker as the eighth member of the Legends of Dodger Baseball. The grand finale: Matt Kemp Day, when the decade-long Dodger signed a one-day contract with the franchise to retire as a Dodger.

    9. Andy Pages Guns Down Harper

Throwing from right field to third base is one of the farthest throws a baseball player can make. With two outs on the board, Andy Pages threw a laser to third baseman Kiké Hernandez in the bottom of the seventh inning. The throw caught Phillies’ Bryce Harper as he tried to advance to third. But, Pages secured the third out to get out of the inning only down by three runs.

    8. River Ryan Barehand Play

After being called up to the major leagues for the first time in his career, starting pitcher River Ryan had an impressive four starts, accruing a 1.33 ERA. The 25-year-old is now out for the season after enduring an elbow injury. But, in his last game, the right-hander grabbed the ball with his bare hand before throwing it to Freddie Freeman to get Pirates’ Isiah Kiner-Falafa out at first. Ryan exhibited his former shortstop tendencies — the position he played when the Dodgers traded for him two spring ago.

    7. Kevin Kiermaier Running Catch

The Dodgers’ center field defense has been questionable all season. At the trade deadline, the franchise acquired two center fielders, former Blue Jay Kevin Kiermaier and St. Louis Cardinals veteran Tommy Edman. In the top of the fourth inning against the Pirates, Kiermaier made a leaping catch in center field to get the second out on the inning. His catch sparked hope that the Dodgers may have found a solution to their outfield dilemma.

    6. Jack Flaherty Escapes Bases-Loaded Jam

Another player acquired at the trade deadline was starting pitcher Jack Flaherty. He was arguably the best pitching trade option at this season’s deadline, and he proved it in the bottom of the sixth inning against the Athletics. The right-hander entered the game with bases loaded and no outs. Flaherty was quickly able to get out of the inning unscathed, striking out one.

    5. Kiké Hernández Becomes First MLB Player in Modern Era With Three Hits and a Relief Appearance in a Shutout Victory

Fans may have thought Shohei Ohtani was the only two-way player on the Dodgers until Kiké Hernández walked up to the mound. In the bottom of the ninth inning, the Dodgers were leading the Athletics 10-0. Whether it was to rest the regular relievers or to spice things up, Hernández was the closer for the Aug. 3 game. His first outing as a pitcher made Hernández the first MLB player in the modern era to record three hits and a relief appearance in a shutout victory.

    4. Freddie Freeman Return

In addition to being an eight-time MLB All-Star, Freddie Freeman is a dedicated father to three sons. The first baseman was absent from the Dodgers for nine days to support his three-year-old son, Max, who was hospitalized with Guillain-Barre syndrome. After his son returned home, so did Freeman. The team showed its support by wearing blue warmup T-shirts that said “#MaxStrong” across the chest. The crowd gave Freeman a standing ovation during his first plate appearance since returning. Then, Freeman hit a single to right field to top off the heartwarming sequence.

    3. Freddie Freeman Hits 500th Career Double

Following his triumphant return to the Dodgers, Freddie Freeman hit his 500th career double on Aug. 6 against the Phillies in the bottom of the first inning. Freeman leads all active players in career doubles.

    2. Shohei Ohtani Becomes Third Dodger to Join 30/30 Club

The weekend before Matt Kemp Day, Shohei Ohtani became the first Dodger since Kemp (2011) to log 30 home runs and 30 stolen bases in one season. This makes Ohtani the third member of the Dodgers’ 30/30 club, alongside Kemp and Raul Mondesi (1997, 1999). Mondesi is the only Dodger to achieve the feat twice. With Ohtani’s 10-year contract secured, he might also be the next to do it.

    1. Teoscar Hernández Walk-Off Single, Sweep Pirates

A Hernández-Hernández play sealed the Dodgers’ sweep over the Pirates. The 2024 Home Run Derby champion Teoscar Hernández hit a walk-off single to bring home Kiké Hernández on Sunday, capping a memorable homestand.
