Dodgers Make Multiple Roster Moves, Including Recalling Bobby Miller

The Los Angeles Dodgers have made a flurry of moves before the second game of a three-game series against the St. Louis Cardinals.

The Dodgers have recalled young right-handed pitcher Bobby Miller from Triple-A and activated veteran relief pitcher Ryan Brasier. In response to these moves, the Dodgers have optioned right-handed pitcher Michale Grove and young southpaw Justin Wrobleski.

Although Miller is back in the major leagues after a brief stint in Triple-A, he hasn’t pitched his best ball. With the Oklahoma City Baseball Club, he has logged a 5.54 ERA, 1.69 WHIP, and walked as many batters (11) as strikeouts in 13 innings in his last three starts.

The Dodgers’ starting rotation has been depleted with injuries. They are desperate for answers, and they hope Miller can find his groove similar to how he looked to start the season. It’s been a tough go-around for Miller in 2024, as he’s recorded an 8.07 ERA with a 1-2 record, 27 strikeouts, and a 1.83 WHIP in seven starts and 29.0 innings. Miller was L.A.’s first-round pick in the 2020 MLB Draft.

Brasier has been activated from the 60-day injured list as he’s dealt with a calf issue. The veteran pitcher last pitched on April 27 but did not allow a run while striking out 12 and walking one in eight innings during his rehab assignment in Triple-A.

Brasier began his rehab assignment almost a month ago, and he should be used in mid-leverage situations down the stretch.

Grove and Wrobleski will make their way to Triple-A. Wrobleski pitched on Friday against the Cardinals and earned his first big-league win. It may not have been his best league outing, as he gave up three home runs in five innings; however, the offense picked up the load and did enough to give him his win.

Although Wrobleski is heading back to Triple-A, there is a possibility that he could be recalled, given the way the Dodgers rotation has suffered through injuries.

Grove appeared in five innings since he was activated from the 15-day IL on Aug. 7 due to an intercostal strain. Since his return, he has allowed three runs on four hits and three walks while sticking out four across 4.1 innings.
