During the Los Angeles Dodgers game against the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday, Los Angeles first baseman Freddie Freeman took a ground ball that got a bad hop. It caught his middle finger on his right hand and is now considered day-to-day.

His x-rays were negative thankfully so Freeman may not need to miss too much time. Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register posted the news on social media.

The Dodgers just got star Mookie Betts back from injury so the last thing they need is for Freeman to miss a significant amount of time. Los Angeles has been seeing players go in and out of the lineup all season but Freeman has been a steady presence.

On the season, Freeman has hit .292 with 17 home runs and 71 runs batted in. He has been a stable bat in the lineup for Los Angeles amid all the different issues that they have suffered.

The hope is that Freeman won’t be out for too long, if at all. He likely will miss the series finale against the Cardinals, if anything out of an abundance of caution.

The Dodgers need Freeman healthy if they want to reach their goals of winning the World Series so allowing him to fully heal may be the best course of action.

The team is looking to get some needed reinforcements this coming week as both Tommy Edman and Max Muncy are scheduled to return . Los Angeles desperately needs good health the rest of the way as the division race has gotten tighter than it’s been in years.
