The Los Angeles Dodgers will give the first 40,000 game attendees a special Kobe Bryant jersey to celebrate the late NBA legend’s birthday on Sunday.

The jersey giveaway comes after the actual birthday of the Lakers legend, Aug. 23, and Kobe Bryant Day, Aug. 24, which is recognized by the city of Los Angeles and Orange County.

The jerseys will have a special black snake print design to honor the Black Mamba. The design also features a patch that says “KB” on the sleeve. Both of Bryant’s legendary numbers will be included on the jersey, with the No. 8 displayed on the front of the jersey, while No. 24 will be shown on the back.

The Dodgers have utilized the weekend to celebrate and honor the NBA All-Star. On Friday, there was a Lakers-themed drone show following the game. The show honored Bryant and the Lakers team that won the 2020 NBA Finals.

Saturday’s game will feature a giveaway of Lakers Showtime t-shirts which will be given to the first 40,000 fans. Lakers legends including Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar will be featured on the t-shirts.

Bryant has been credited with helping the Dodgers recruit baseball superstar Shohei Ohtani. In 2017, the Los Angeles icon recorded a video message for Ohtani, which encouraged him to join the Dodgers clubhouse.

In 2020, Nike declared the week of Bryant’s birthday as “Mamba Week.” The Dodgers aren’t the only organization commemorating the special week. A slew of events will take place throughout Los Angeles to honor the Lakers legend.

To kick off the week, The Mamba and Mambacita Sports Foundation, released a collection of merchandise called “LA Royal.”

At the beginning of the month, the Lakers along with the Bryant family, unveiled a statue of Bryant and his daughter Gianna outside of Crypto.com Arena.

The weekend festivities for Bryant at Dodger Stadium are a testament to his legacy as a Los Angeles athlete. Bryant’s impact and influence went beyond the court. Although he is a beloved basketball figure, he has captured the hearts of Angelenos for his work off the court.

Mamba Week and the numerous celebrations of the Lakers legend speak volumes about the inspiration Bryant was and still is to people.

One thing is clear, Los Angeles will always be Kobe Town.
