    Dodgers Game Begins Amid Record-Hot Temperature: How Fans Reacted

    The first week of September has proven to be the hottest of the year in Los Angeles. Dodger Stadium was not immune.

    In fact, the 1:10 p.m. first pitch between the Dodgers and Cleveland Guardians was officially listed at 103 degrees Fahrenheit, a record. ( Game 1 of the 2017 World Series also began in 103-degree heat.)

    According to Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times, a heat stroke warning flashed on the stadium’s scoreboard:

    Although attendance is typically high for Sunday day games in Los Angeles, those in attendance were seeking shade whenever possible, giving the appearance of a mostly-empty stadium.

    The Dodgers took the rare step of giving out free water:

    Many who braved the heat were quick to tout their bravery on social media, while those who didn’t attend the game in person questioned the sanity of those who did:
