Tommy Edman had another huge night for the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday in a 10-8 victory over the Chicago Cubs in Chavez Ravine.

The switch-hitter homered twice against the Cubs. Wednesday’s game marked the first time he’s homered from each side of the plate.

Edman’s streak of four home runs in 24 hours left many in the Dodgers clubhouse in awe. He entered Tuesday’s game without a longball on the season, having spent most of the year on the injured list recovering from offseason surgery.

“I think the thing that’s probably most impressive is we’re not used to having many switch hitters in our lineup, and for him to have no drop-off really makes it tough for opponents to navigate our lineup,” manager Dave Roberts said. “He gives a quality at-bat every time up there. He can get a base hit, he values the walk and obviously, he shows he can drive the ball out of the ballpark.”

On Tuesday he hit both from the right side.

“I don’t know if I’ve ever done that before in my life,” Edman said of his consecutive multi-homer games. “I feel like I’ve kind of gotten locked into a good routine in the cage, working on mechanics and having consistent movements in my swing and the results are paying off.”

Edman made an impact early Wednesday, taking advantage of a changeup from Jordan Wicks in the first inning and driving it 374 feet over the left field wall from the right side of the plate. Later in the eighth inning, with the Dodgers up by a run, Edman stepped up again, this time from the left side, and launched a two-run homer off reliever Trey Wingerter.

“I’m working on a couple of different things from each side of the plate,” Edman said. “But I think I’m doing a good job of becoming more consistent from each side.”

Before joining the Dodgers, Edman had recorded three multi-homer games in his career. Now, he’s already added two more to his tally since arriving in Los Angeles.

Edman’s presence has boosted the lineup, which thrives on depth and flexibility from every position. He’s thankful to be contributing so effectively to his new team, especially with the season reaching its crucial stretch.

He missed the entire first half of the season recovering from injuries.

“It’s a huge blessing to be back on the field. I didn’t really know what my season would look like,” Edman said. “To get traded here in the thick of a playoff race and to be able to contribute like this it’s a huge blessing.”
