The Dodgers are calling up flamethrowing reliever Edgardo Henriquez from Triple-A Oklahoma City. The 22-year-old was present and accounted for Tuesday afternoon at Dodger Stadium, where the Dodgers will host the San Diego Padres.

Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic was the first to report the news, which Dave Roberts subsequently confirmed to reporters before it was announced by the team.

Roberts said pitcher Ben Casparius will be optioned in a corresponding 28-man roster move. To make room for Henriquez on the 40-man roster, Gavin Stone was transferred to the 60-day IL, ending his season.

Henriquez went 1-0 with a 2.84 ERA in 14 games at Triple-A Oklahoma City, striking out 18 batters and walking 10 in 12.2 innings. His fastball has been clocked as fast as 103.5 mph this season, which would be the fastest recorded pitch in franchise history if he can replicate it at the major league level.

In May, Henriquez was promoted from the Single-A Rancho Cucamonga Quakes to the Class-A Great Lakes Loons. A month later, the reliever was promoted to the Double-A Tulsa Drillers, where he played until his Triple-A promotion in August.

Henriquez has rapidly progressed since returning from Tommy John surgery that sidelined him for the entirety of the 2023 season. In April, the Venezuelan pitcher had a 57 percent strike rate that slightly improved to a 59 in May. From June to August, Henriquez showed significant improvement in his command (a 63.7 strike rate) before his promotion to Triple-A Oklahoma City in August.

Overall this season, batters average .188 against Henriquez.

Despite being a right-handed pitcher, Henriquez is more dominant against left-handed batters than right-handed batters.
