Miguel Rojas Leaves Dodgers Game With Injury

Miguel Rojas was removed in the fifth inning of the Dodgers’ game against the San Diego Padres on Wednesday night with an injury he suffered running the bases.

The shortstop appeared to hurt himself after putting on the brakes rounding third base in the bottom of the fourth inning. Rojas stayed in after visiting with manager Dave Roberts and a team athletic trainer. However, Tommy Edman moved from center field to shortstop in the fifth inning, and Andy Pages took over in center field.

According to the Dodgers, Rojas was removed from the game with left groin tightness. After the game, both the veteran shortstop and manager Dave Roberts seemed hopeful that Rojas would be able to return before the regular season finale Sunday against the Colorado Rockies.

Rojas told reporters the injury has been bothering his left groin for week.

For now, Rojas will undergo an MRI exam and get a cortisone shot, knocking him out for Thursday’s game against the Padres and at least a couple more games beyond that.

As for the postseason, Rojas told reporters, “we figure that with the playoff schedule, you never play more than three days in a row. Hopefully my ability to stay on top of it, plus the injection helps.”

Rojas, 35, has played 103 games this season. His .787 OPS is his highest in a non-pandemic season since his 2014 debut.

Rojas’ 66 starts at shortstop lead the Dodgers, and he’s been the primary starter there since he returned from a forearm strain on Aug. 7.

Famously, Rojas made the final three outs in the Dodgers’ last game with one swing of the bat: a rare triple play in the bottom of the ninth inning of Tuesday’s 4-2 loss to San Diego.
